Showed this to my chairbound friend and the first thing she told me is "In a fantasy setting with magic aplenty and healing spells and potions everywhere, who would need such a thing?"
The way I always saw disability in fantasy settings was a lack of medical or magical access. Magic can rewrite DNA to transform someone into something else, so why wouldn't it just correct illnesses or handicaps? I grew up wishing for a cure to my illnesses and physical limits only to grow up and strengthen my body to my best ability. Watching how people glorify or even cling to their shortcomings frustrates me to no end. Why don't people want to be better anymore? I don't get it!

This makes no sense whatsoever.
I’d ask what were they thinking but I’m afraid of the answer.
